Deepfakes are widely used in Hollywood today for legitimate purposes. They’re used for de-aging actors in Marvel movies and brought back the late Paul Walker in Fast and Furious 7. Deepfakes have the potential to replace high-end CGI, which could save the film industry millions of dollars and countless hours of processing time in filmmaking. So while deepfakes can be abused, they’re already a valuable tool in professional entertainment production where expensive visual effects would otherwise be needed.
