Predictions from AI leaders are more hype than reality.
Sam Altman predicted AGI would arrive in 2025, and Elon Musk said 2026. Both are more about hype than reality. Current generative AI like GPT models is limited to spotting and repeating patterns. ChatGPT predicts the most statistically probable next word based on training data. This isn’t real understanding, just pattern matching. It’s no more self-aware than a chess computer that doesn’t care if it loses. Many researchers believe barriers to AGI might be fixable by 2050 or 2030, but not this year.
