Classroom data shows AI heard Western names five times more often.

I compared AI name recognition against my own participation ratings for students at Cornell and INSEAD. For Western names, my ratings and the AI’s count had a correlation of 0.53, showing they moved together. For non-Western names, the correlation was just 0.27, statistically indistinguishable from noise. The AI also heard Western names about five times more often. For half my class, the AI’s measure of contribution had almost nothing to do with how much they actually contributed.
